Terms and Conditions

The IntelliJ IDEA 2007 Plugin Competition (the "Contest") is a competition aimed at encouraging the development of innovative and creative plugins for JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA integrated development environment (IDE) for Java ("Plugins"). All eligible entries will be judged based on the criteria listed below and described in detail in Judging Criteria. Prizes will be awarded for the best entries.

Dates

  • Contest begins at 12:01 a.m. (GMT +2) on September 17, 2007
  • Contest ends at 11:59 p.m. (GMT +2) on December 21, 2007.
    Entries submitted or completed before the start date or after the end date will be disqualified.
  • Winners will be individually notified by e-mail, and the list of winners will be announced on January 31, 2008.

Organizer

The Contest is organized by JetBrains s.r.o., Klanova 9/506 14700 Prague, Czech Republic ("Organizer"), which is also the primary Contest sponsor, providing the cash prizes and licenses for the JetBrains products awarded as prizes. The Organizer is solely responsible for judging and all operational aspects of the Contest.

Sponsors

Sponsors are third-party companies that have contributed non-cash prizes to the Contest. Sponsors are in no way responsible for judging or any other aspects of the Contest. The list of sponsor companies is available on the Contest website.

Eligibility

The Contest is open to software development enthusiasts who are 18 years of age or older at the time of entry. The Contest is void where prohibited by applicable law. The following categories of people are NOT eligible to enter the Contest:

  • Employees of JetBrains s.r.o and its subsidiaries, affiliates, and resellers.
  • Principals and employees of vendors of IntelliJ IDEA Companion Products.
  • Immediate family members and/or persons living in the households of people described in the above two points.

Submissions

A Plugin submitted for judging ("Entry") must be a functional plugin for IntelliJ IDEA, written using the IntelliJ IDEA Open API, and compatible with versions 6.x or/and 7.0 of the API. The Plugin developer(s) ("Entrant") will be required to register with the Organizer via the contest web site. The Entry's interface may be localized in the entrant's preferred language; however, it must be accompanied by an English transcript of the instructions and interface for English speaking judges.

An Entry must be created by you, either alone or in collaboration with others whom you choose (singly and collectively referred to as the "Entrant"). Submitting an Entry constitutes representation that the Entrant has all unrestricted rights to the Entry, and that the Entry does not defame or invade publicity rights or privacy of any person, or infringe upon the intellectual property rights of any person or entity.

Every Entry must be submitted under a Berkeley Standard Distribution (BSD) open source license or an
Apache open source license.

You must submit your Entry online by following the instructions listed at Submission Guidelines to be eligible for entry. You may enter as many plugins as you wish.

You may optionally submit a plugin which already exists in the IntelliJ IDEA Plugin Repository provided you develop new/extended/enhanced functionality for the Contest. Such entries will be judged solely on the new functionality.

Final source code of plugins entered in the Contest must be uploaded to the Plugin Repository before the contest ending date/time in order to be considered in the judging.

Judging

All eligible Plugins will be judged and ranked by the Organizer at their sole discretion. Three (3) general winners and 3 Honorable Mention winners will be selected based on the following criteria, each of which will be weighted equally:

  • Usefulness
  • Creativity and Elegance
  • Completeness
  • Code quality and documentation.

All decisions regarding prize awards are final and binding in all matters relating to the Contest.

Cash Prizes

The following cash prizes will be awarded:

  • First Prize: $7000
  • Second Prizes: $4000
  • Third Prize: $2000
  • "Team Leader's Choice" Prize: $1000
  • 3 Honorable Mentions: $350 Amazon.com gift certificate each

Winners of cash prizes will also be awarded software licenses for products of the Organizer and/or Sponsors as described in Prizes.

Other prizes

In addition to cash prizes, the Organizer will award three Honorable Mention prizes, based on the same judging criteria, and consisting solely of software product licenses for products of the Organizer and other vendors as described in Prizes.

All entrants who complete the entry process and whose Entry is judged by the Organizer to be a complete and valid Entry, and will receive a special commemorative contest T-shirt.

Terms of Prize Awards

All prize values (cash and licenses) are in U.S. Dollars. All prizes subject to standard terms and conditions governing such prize, if any. The Sponsors reserve the right to substitute any prize package with another prize of equal or greater value in the event that the advertised prize (or any component thereof) is not available. In the event of a tie, the winners will receive a prize of equal value. Expenses not specifically stated above, together with the reporting and payment of all applicable taxes, fees, surcharges or governmental duties of any kind, if any, arising out of or related to acceptance or use of a prize, are the sole responsibility of the winner of that prize.

Each prize winner may be required to sign and return an affidavit of eligibility, a signed copy of the Terms and Conditions, and/or a liability/publicity release (except where prohibited by law) and provide any additional information (such as social security number), that may be required for the Organizer to comply with applicable law. Failure or delay in giving such requested information or approvals may result in disqualification. Return of any prize or prize notification as undeliverable, or the inability to contact a potential winner may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner.

Winner Notification

Prize winners will be notified on or before January 31, 2008 via e-mail or post. A winners list will also be posted on the Organizer's web site(s) and may be publicized by other means at the Organizer's discretion.

License to Publish Submissions

By submitting an Entry and entering this Contest you hereby grant the Organizer a perpetual, irrevocable, sub-licenseable, worldwide, royalty free right to use, test, translate, publish and distribute your Plugin in connection with the promotion of JetBrains s.r.o. Further, none of the Entry materials submitted by you will be treated as confidential, so please do not submit proprietary information.

The Organizer shall be free to use for any purpose, without the obligation to pay any royalties, any information, ideas, concepts or know-how which may be retained in the memory of the judges or persons who have had access to the Plugins.

Permission to publish winner names

By submitting an Entry and entering the Contest you grant the Organizer permission to publish your name and your country residence in any and all publicity regarding the outcome of the Contest, published in any medium, in the event that you win one of the prizes.

Limitation of Liability

YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE CONTEST IS AT YOUR OWN RISK. THE ORGANIZER HEREBY DISCLAIMS ANY AND ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY OR OTHERWISE WITH RESPECT TO THE CONTEST. THE ORGANIZER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT OR INDIRECT DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR PARTICIPATION OR INABILITY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CONTEST. The Organizer assumes no responsibility for any computer, online, telephone transmission or technical malfunctions that may occur during participation in the Contest, or for theft, destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, your Plugin or any other materials submitted by you. The Organizer is not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by web site users, Contest participants or any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest; or for any technical or human error which may occur in the processing of submissions in the Contest. The Organizer assumes no responsibility for any error, interruption, defect, or delay in operation or transmission, failures or technical malfunction of the Internet, or any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, computer equipment, software, email. The Organizer is not responsible for any injury or damage to participants or to any computer related to or resulting from participating or downloading materials in this Contest. Some jurisdictions may not allow certain limitations on liability and so the foregoing limitations may not apply to you.

General Legal Provisions

The Organizer may discontinue, cancel or reschedule the Contest, or otherwise disqualify any entry, for any reason or no reason, at their sole discretion. The Contest and these Official Rules are governed by the laws of the Czech Republic, excluding its conflicts of laws principles. By entering the Contest, you consent to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the Czech Republic.

If any provision of these Official Rules is held by a court of competent jurisdiction to be contrary to law, such provision shall be changed and interpreted so as to best accomplish the objectives of the original provision to the fullest extent allowed by law, provided that if no such interpretation is possible, the provision shall be stricken and the remaining provisions of these Terms and Conditions shall remain in effect to the fullest extent allowable under applicable law. The headings in this Agreement are inserted for convenience only and do not affect its interpretation.

These Terms and Conditions constitute the final, complete and exclusive understanding between the Organizer and the Entrant with respect to Entrant's participation in the Contest, and supersedes any prior or contemporaneous representations, rules, or agreements, whether written or oral.
